Ninety-four-year-old Eleanor Morgenstein (June Squibb – also starred  in “Thelma”) relocates to New York after the death of her longtime friend. Lonely and longing for connection, she accidentally winds up at a Holocaust-survivors support group — and, in a moment of longing, begins telling her friend’s traumatic story as if it were her own. A young journalism student, Nina, befriends Eleanor, and their unlikely friendship becomes a fragile web of grief, identity, lies, and memory. As more people begin to believe Eleanor’s tale, the weight of deception grows, forcing all involved to confront loss, guilt, and the true meaning of belonging.  First time direction by Scarlett Johansson.

Top Reviews:

  • “June Squibb gives a blazing, unforgettable performance — her spirit carries the film even when the moral weight gets heavy.”

  • “A moving, if flawed, meditation on aging, grief, and the stories we tell ourselves; the film stays with you even after it ends.”

  • “Scarlett Johansson’s directorial debut has its missteps, but its compassion and vulnerability give it surprising depth — the core truths feel real.”
